Special Report - 'Is This Another War Declared By Weekly Gendai? - KID Yamamoto Attending Marijuana Party??'

Does this mean that once again, Weekly Gendai is declaring a war against the Japanese MMA world?

The leadoff article of the August 2nd issue, that hit the stands on July 19th, was a report about how Norifumi KID Yamamoto is a regular at this marijuana party allegedly held in Tokyo.

According to this report by Weekly Gendai, back in January 30th, Harajuku Station Police conducted a "house searching" on one of the condominium rooms located in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo with the suspicion of violating the Cannabis Control Law. The police found nothing but Weekly Gendai believes that marijuana party was often held at this room rented by the ex-manager of a Japanese popular comedian George Tokoro.

To back up their theory, Weekly Gendai published statements of three affirmants. One is the resident of this condominium and the two others are actual participants of this marijuana party.

The resident of this condominium told Weekly Gendai, "So many people that were driving a big American car visited that room. 'I wonder what they are doing'. Among us neighbors, that is what we are saying." And according to this person KID Yamamoto and a popular actor named Yousuke Kubozuka were often spotted visiting of this room.

Norifumi KID Yamamoto (right) is denying all allegation by report published by Weekly Gendai.

Then Weekly Gendai continues to the testimonies by two people who claim they have smoked marijuana with both KID Yamamoto and Kubozuka, "There is no doubt that almost every night marijuana parties were held in that room." The other affirmant added that KID Yamamoto came to this party with his wife, a fashion model Maria, and both of them were smoking marijuana in front of their kids. And this person also revealed that Maria was a very close friend of Kaoruko Sakai, the wife of a popular Musician Marc Panther, who was arrested for possession of Ketamine (also tested positive for cocaine) in September of last year, "Even before she was married to KID Yamamoto, when she was a teenager, she was known for being high all the time."

Japan is a country with strict drug laws. Everyone remembers this is the country that hand cuffed Paul McCartney, deporting him for possession of marijuana. Which means smoking one joint could ruin your entire career in that society.

However if this report is true it can be way more than just KID Yamamoto. Since KID is the signature figure, perhaps one of the most popular MMA fighters in the country, him getting into trouble could trigger a major negative perception on the entire world of Japanese MMA. The public could label the industry as dirty and corrupted. That could well end up in the cancellation of broadcasting MMA just like what happened to PRIDE.

And we all know that Weekly Gendai is the magazine that published a series of articles about PRIDE and its relationship with Japan's dark world that ultimately wound up with the end of PRIDE.

However at this point the police found nothing and KID Yamamoto denies all the allegations, and let's hope things will stay this way.
