UFN 13 - 04/02/2008: 'Battle Of Beantown, Alves vs. Parisyan, Thomas vs. Neer - Complete Card'

On April Fool’s Day, the young MMA world is abuzz for Wednesday’s UFN 13 being held at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colorado.

The most high caliber bouts on the 24 man fight card, will be the return of Thiago Alves, who will be taking on The Heat Karo Parysian. This will be a classic battle of a striking judoka versus a striking jiu jitsu man. The winner of this battle will perhaps be a shout away from a title shot in the future, especially Parysian who had to pass by a shot at the title in the past due to injury. Alves most recently got by veteran Chris Lytle with a TKO stoppage due to a cut and brings a 6-2-octagon record with his only losses being against John Fitch and in his octagon debut against Spencer Fischer.

Din Thomas, who blew out his knee in his fight against Kenny Florian will be confronting a very tough Josh Neer. Certainly Thomas will come out with a lot to prove as he certainly will have revenge planned in the future against Ken Flo. Nate Diaz against Kurt Pellegrino will be another interesting battle between a young gun and an old war torn jiu jitsu veteran.

Overall this is a loaded card for a UFN and fighters such as Marcus Aurelio and Matt Hamill will add even more to the content of this show. The main card will be broadcast on Spike TV on Wednesday night at 7 PM ET/PT, and will be punch started by the encounter between Houston Alexander and James Irvin in the light heavyweight division.

Not only is this the first return to the altitudes of Colorado, “Since The Beginning”... of the octagons debut, but also on the line is one Bostonian’s reputation against a younger Beantown resident.

The main event winner of Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon will be a notch closer to a title shot for the winner of BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk.

Also on the card is the return of George Sotiropoulos, who is now residing in Long Island having joined the Serra Longo Team.

'Stephan Bonnar Tears Ligaments Out For Six Months' - 02/20/2008

Stephan Bonnar has suffered from torn ligaments, which derailed his participation in the upcoming UFC Fight Night on April 2. Scheduled to meet the powerful wrestler Matt Hamill, the Carlson Gracie trained Bonnar who emerged into the big time at Antonio Inoki's Jungle Fight 1 who became the second victim of Lyoto Michada tore leg ligaments during training which will keep him sidelined for half a year.

A popular star from TUF Season One Stephan Bonar is now out for six months due to a leg ligaments.

Bonnar will require a ligament replacement surgery since being diagnosed with a full tear of ligaments. Bonnar allegedly tore his knee while tuning up his jiu-jitsu for the fight with Hamill, which was part of the main card.

Bonnar had most recently returned successfully to the UFC with wins over Mike Nickels and Eric Schaefer respectively after dropping decisions to Rashad Evans and Forrest Griffin. This is another disappointing moment for Bonnar who had returned after a year hiatus after his two losses, and will now be forced to another yearlong absence from action in the octagon.
