FFF 4 – 04/03/2008: ‘Carina Damm Is Explosive , Roxy n Lana Champs – Complete Results’

Although four of the fights were cancelled on the day of the festivities, this show turned out to be an entertaining event as the headliner between, Fatal Femmes Fighting LW champion Roxanne Modafferi and talented Brazilian Vanessa Porto, resulted in a real war. For Roxy it was a time to display the striking prowess, which she has been developing in Kei Shu Kai in Japan, and then in the end she displayed superior jiu jitsu pushing back the takedown attempts of the skilled Carioca. Modaferri was then able to finish Porto in the early part of the third round with a clinch and a knee to the mug, followed by the referees’ interference. Although Modafferi has been on a roll lately, she still has some bones to pick with fighters such as Tara LaRosa, who is missing from this particular picture.

Although she is indeed sexy and Brazilian, you better think twice about messing with this Carioca mixed martial artist, as she has given Sofie Bagherdai her first ever loss. Damm displayed not only her striking power, as her Alliance BJJ team mate Xande Ribeiro and Ronaldo "Jacare" Santos looked on, but she also made her brother proud by pounding Bagherdai to the canvass and slapping on a precise armbar at 1:52 of the second round. For those who want to get some more of Damm she will be training in Dave Strasser’s Frestyle Fight Academy in Kenosha Wisconsin along with her talented sibling.

Another top-notch battle of elite fighters was between Japan’s Takayo Hashi who took on a striking Amanda Buckner who could not take the game to her comfort zone, the ground. The Japanese fighter pulled off a decision victory over Buckner who is definitely a gatekeeper of women’s MMA. It must be noted though that Amanda had mentioned her dislike of the three-minute rounds previously, and they may have worked against her ground strategy.

In the women’s heavy weight division, it was the charismatic Lana Stefanac who was a stand out at ADCC in Jersey last year, who came home victorious with an instant armbar finish of Teyvia Reid. Stefanac could very well remain a champion in this division for years to come, as she is a large, solid, athletic, and technical fighter.
