29th –
Love Impact at Shin-Kiba 1st RING, Tokyo
attendance: 297
*MMA rules – no striking to the head on the ground.
MMA rules – tag team bout 15 minutes time limit
Satoko Shinashi (Free / 49.5 kg) & Sachiyo (Hakuryu Gym
/ 49.0 kg) vs.
Ariya (Red Devil KISS / 58.0 kg) & Chiaki Kawabata (Red
Devil KISS / 49.0 kg)
result: 15 minute draw
The fight began with no explanation or reason why Ariya all
of a sudden joined the Red Devil KISS. Ariya faces Sachiyo
to start the battle.
Hayachiro throws a kick but Ariya grabs her leg and quite
easily takes Sachiyo down to the ground and gets on her back,
mounting she goes for a rear naked choke. Sachiyo escapes
from the choke but receives a yellow card for pinching and
scratching Ariya's face with her nails in the process.
 |
Shinashi, the ace fighter from SMACK GIRL showed
her
superiority over the Red Devil KISS fighters by dominating
the
ground game.
|
Sachiyo after the fight admitted that this was intentional
by stating, "I was thinking, one or two yellow cards
can not be helped."
However Sachiyo continues by kicking on the ground and, when
the opponent shoots in, she nails her with a knee shot. It's
another yellow card for Sachiyo. This series of illegal moves
by Sachiyo, fires up the anger in the Red Devil KISS team.
Shinashi denied it after the fight, but the Red Devil KISS
team now claims that Shinashi also played dirty by biting,
and they protested to the referee, who obviously showed a
sense of mistrust towards the judges with no intention of
strictly restricting illegal moves.
Both teams did have more than a few moments to finish the
fight with submissions but in the end, 15 minutes were up
and the bout ended in a draw.
After the fight, the Red Devil KISS team walked over to Shinashi's
corner complaining about the illegal moves and it almost developed
into a brawl. President Kenichiro Shibata and Supervisor Shigeru
Saeki stepped into the mix and suggested a five minute extra
round but the Red Devil KISS team were outraged with Shibata's
attitude – obviously favoring Shinashi – vetoed the proposal.
Naturally, the judges also rejected this five-minute extra
round, which is not in the rulebook so the bout was officially
over as a draw.
In Love Impact's MMA rules, if any part of the body other
than the back of the fighter's feet touch the ground, it is
considered as "being on the ground," so kicking
would be prohibited. President Shibata, about a month ago,
provided an official rulebook to Sachiyo, and also, Takeshi
Ichise ruling director of the rules meeting explained the
illegal moves by demonstrating them.
However, Sachiyo's trainers who said, "We thought she
could kick on the opponent standing on her knees" revealed
that they are a little too low in terms of recognizing a sport
called MMA. Since Sachiyo received two yellow cards, she would
face a 40% cut on her fight money.
After the fight, Sachiyo self-criticized herself by saying,
"I would like to get used to MMA rules before the next
fight."
President Shibata stated, "It was fun. Like I’ve been
saying for a while, my ideal event is something like 'canting
over a toy box' so I think we are getting closer. (A five-minute
extra round?) Well, I forgot who I was. It's only been a year
since I came into the world of MMA so I guess I am still a
freshman."

CROSS SECTION at Tokyo FM Hall, Tokyo
This was a quiet Independence Day for women's MMA.
The "MMA rules" of CROSS SECTION are different from
SMACK GIRL's "MMA rules" because there is no time
limit on the ground.
This event, from the very first bout to the main bout was
held completely under "MMA rules" and this is probably
the first time in the history of Japanese fight sports. (Striking
to the head on the ground is still prohibited but since this
is a sport for women, I believe this can't be helped.)
 |
"The Little Giant" Ohmuro calmly defends
an armbar attempt
by Masako Yoshida.
|
In the men's event, this all-MMA-rules-bout event is common
but it was difficult for women because there simply weren't
too many "regular" MMA fighters out there. SMACk
GIRLS however came up with a -30 second limit on the ground-
rule that prompted kick boxers to step into MMA, and this
special rule for women – no striking to the head on the ground
– became sort of like a "standard defect" which
made it easier for grapplers to compete in the sport. And
then, these women athletes began competing in women’s MMA
rules and this situation fledged many "regular"
woman MMA fighters in Japan.
This event called CROSS SECTION was held at a small arena
and there were no popular or known fighters in the cards,
there weren't any so-called "great fights" so the
event was given to be easily forgettable.
However, this event finally stepped beyond a "women's
martial arts event" filled with bouts with different
rules but stood on its own as a regular "MMA event"
and brought the standard up to the Men's MMA world, therefore,
I believe this event was extremely meaningful.
I suppose they did create "cross-section" between
a Women's MMA event and a Women's Martial Arts event.
This event, and SMACK GIRLS back in August – Tsuji vs. Montoya
– that packed Korakuen Hall, as a set, should be recorded
in the history books.
Main event – 47 kg / 104.81 lbs & under
Naoko Ohmuro (Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai Tokyo) vs. Masako Yoshida
(NATIVE SPIRIT)
result: draw (0-0)
4 foot 11 inch Ohmuro, because of the reach advantage of
5 foot 5 inch Yoshida, is not making effective contact in
the stand-up battle. On the ground, from the guard position,
Yoshida attempts an arm bar and triangle but Ohmuro defends
the attack and constantly goes for a mount position or leg
submissions – the highly tactical bout continued. Finally,
the fight was over and both fighters really didn't have any
opportunity to finish the fight but this bout was full of
tension, and very worthy of a fight as the main event of the
night.

This was the biggest win in Chuwattana's
career but it was purely accidental.

5th– New Japan Kick Boxing "Full Sparks – Intense Glare
– Part 2"
at Differ Ariake
attendance: 1111
Main Event – 70 kg & under 3 R - 3 minute / round
Kozo Takeda (Jisei-kan) vs. Teechakaring Chuwattana (Thailand)
result: 1 R TKO by Chuwattana (doctor stoppage – cut on the
left eye brow)
Chuwattana fought back in August 8th in a Hachioji event
and lost to Naoto Seki in a unanimous decision. Therefore,
many predicted domination by Kozo Takeda but just like back
in July, misfortune happened again.
Takeda with his counter punch and low-kick controls the pace
but Chuwattana's left jab sliced Kozo's left eyebrow about
6 centimeters so the fight ended in a doctor's stoppage. Takeda
was just warming up but the fight was over. This cut was just
above the cut he sustained back in July. Takaeda, in the last
injury, got stitches but three days later on his own removed
the thread and started training so, it seems like his participation
in K-1 MAX on October 13th is not a problem.
Takeda said, "If this happens again, I don't know what
to say to the fans" and looked a little worried but after
he stitched up his scar, he discussed the current conditions
with Shinichi Ihara (chairman of New Japan Kick Boxing), Kunimasa
Nagae (Kancho of Seiji-kan), and Sadaharu Tanigawa (K-1 Event
Producer) and he has decided to fight in K-1 MAX in October.
And the next day, the press conference was held and the main
card of the K-1 MAX event in October was announced. It's going
to be Kozo Takeda against the current K-1 MAX world champion
Buakow.
